HANOI, Vietnam, Oct. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- On October 26, 2026, United Imaging Healthcare's uMR Jupiter 5T MRI system was officially introduced at Hanoi Medical University Hospital (HMUH), marking the arrival of the first whole-body clinical 5T MRI in the Asia-Pacific region (outside China). The launch ceremony was attended by H.E. He Wei, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Vietnam, along with representatives from the Vietnamese government and Ministry of Health, underscoring the importance attached to the event by both China and Vietnam. Building on this milestone, United Imaging Healthcare and HMUH also established the 5T MRI Research Center of Excellence and AI-Powered Clinical Research Center of Excellence, creating a regional platform for advancing ultra-high-field MRI clinical applications, scientific research, medical education, and academic collaboration.

As the world's first whole-body ultra-high-field 5T MRI system, uMR Jupiter combines a 5T magnetic field with a high-performance gradient system to support whole-body imaging across the brain and nervous system, musculoskeletal system, abdomen, cardiovascular system, pelvis, and vasculature. The system also enables large-area, high-resolution imaging of structures such as the brachial plexus and lower-extremity vessels. Integrated AI technologies further support the analysis and integration of multi-sequence imaging information, enabling more detailed visualization of anatomical structures including vascular lumens and vessel walls.

Compared with conventional 1.5T and 3T MRI, the higher magnetic field strength of 5T MRI provides increased signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), creating greater potential for higher spatial resolution, enhanced anatomical detail, and more comprehensive tissue characterization. For complex clinical questions that may remain challenging with conventional MRI, 5T technology may provide additional imaging information to support the visualization of subtle lesions, vascular structures, and tissue characteristics, offering physicians further information for clinical assessment.

"When we first started exploring 5T MRI, we found it to be a significant technological advancement. It allows us to examine different parts of the body in greater detail and obtain high-quality, high-resolution diagnostic images," said Assoc. Prof. Le Tuan Linh, Deputy Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital and Director of the Radiology Center.

Building on the long-standing medical education and research tradition of Hanoi Medical University, HMUH has developed an integrated model combining clinical care, medical education, and research. In the field of MRI, HMUH is pursuing a range of clinical and research directions, including high-resolution imaging of the nervous and peripheral nervous systems, as well as the head and neck lymphatic system, while also exploring the potential of 5T MRI in areas such as cardiovascular and pelvic imaging. The installation of uMR Jupiter will further connect the hospital's existing research priorities with ultra-high-field MRI, providing a new technical platform for deeper clinical and research exploration in neurological, oncological, vascular, and other areas.

"Through the adoption of 5T MRI, we aim to advance HMUH's role from an adopter of advanced imaging technology to a leading center for MRI research in Vietnam, the region, and beyond. We also seek to contribute to the development and refinement of clinical guidelines for imaging diagnosis, surgery, and interventional treatment, with the broader goal of advancing patient care both in Vietnam and internationally." said Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Lan Hieu, Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital and Director of its Cardiovascular Center.

To mark the launch of uMR Jupiter 5T, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, the Vietnam Society of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, and United Imaging Healthcare jointly hosted an opening ceremony and academic exchange on October 26. The event brought together approximately 250 participants, including medical imaging experts from different countries, as well as representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and Vietnam's Ministry of Health. Featuring academic sessions and a panel discussion, the afternoon workshop explored whole-body clinical applications of 5T MRI, including cerebrovascular, neurological, and cardiovascular imaging, along with advances in ultra-high-field MRI technology. Experts from Hanoi Medical University Hospital, Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai, and Medistate Hospital in Türkiye shared clinical experience and research perspectives, facilitating international academic exchange in ultra-high-field MRI.

During the event, United Imaging Healthcare and Hanoi Medical University Hospital signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening collaboration in advanced medical imaging and jointly unveiled the 5T MRI Research Center of Excellence and the AI-Powered Clinical Research Center of Excellence. The two institutions will further collaborate in 5T MRI clinical applications, research and innovation, professional training, and academic exchange.

United Imaging Healthcare and Hanoi Medical University Hospital have previously collaborated in areas including artificial intelligence, research, and professional training. In May 2026, Hanoi Medical University Hospital and Ruijin Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine also signed an MoU focused on the clinical application and research of 5T MRI, as well as talent development, alongside related training and academic exchange activities.

Building on this foundation, the launch of uMR Jupiter 5T marks a new milestone in connecting Vietnam and Southeast Asia with United Imaging Healthcare's global innovation and research network. Mr. Hong Miao, Senior VP of United Imaging Healthcare and President of Global Marketing, said:

"Our collaboration with Hanoi Medical University Hospital on uMR Jupiter 5T represents a further integration of United Imaging's ultra-high-field 5T MRI technology with local clinical practice, research resources, and medical education in Vietnam. We look forward to using this collaboration as an opportunity to bring more clinical experience and research capabilities into our global collaboration network, making advanced imaging technologies accessible to more patients."

To date, uMR Jupiter 5T has been clinically deployed across multiple regions worldwide. In June, Sezin-Sonomed 5 Tesla Imaging Center in Türkiye began clinical operation with the Middle East's first clinical 5T MRI system; in September, HT Médica and San Rafael University Hospital in Madrid, Spain officially opened Europe's first 5T MRI unit. In alignment with United Imaging's mission to broaden access to advanced care worldwide, United Imaging Healthcare will connect global clinical and research resources through innovative technologies and continue to deepen its global presence.
